He is a deity who serves the practitioners of the Dharma, by defeating obstacles and demons which hinder Buddhist practice. In Sanskrit, Acala means "Immovable". Because he never yields to obstacles. It is said, that he enters into a flame-emitting meditation, in which he exudes flames and destroys all karmic hindrances. He is popularly depicted as an angry figure surrounded by flames, holding a rope and a sword.
