This Tibetan Deer Antler Big Skull Mala is a very rare item sourced directly from Tibet. Each of these beads have been laboriously hand-fashioned from Tibetan deer antler into small skull beads and then strung on durable stretchy cord. This Big Skull mala consists of nine beads, which makes it suitable for counting mantras.
Tibetan Skull Malas are a common type of Buddhist mala found throughout all of Tibet. These malas are typically handmade from animal bone, wood and gemstones. And each of these elements posses a unique set of attributes and meanings that enhance the quality of our lives.
Tibetan Skull Malas have played a significant role in the grounding and sheltering of Tibetan people for ages. When used in meditation practice, these Tibetan skull malas may help us to contemplate the meaning of life and death, and even help us to develop a better understanding of the impermanent nature of life.
These skull-shaped beads possess a very special meaning to the Tibetan people. They are symbolic of honoring the beasts of burden, such as the mighty yak, which have served the livelihood of Tibetan people and mankind. Tibetan people also wear their skull malas as a way to be reminded of the importance of serving their fellow neighbors.
