The lotus flower symbolizes purity and renunciation. Although, the lotus is rooted at the bottom of the muddy water, it still exists immaculately at the surface of the water.
Guanyin is is revered throughout all of the world as the "Goddess of Mercy", who hears the sounds, cries and prayers of the world. The name Guanyin is a Chinese translation of the bodhisattva known as Avalokiteśvara.
